WEEK NO 4
27/04/2010
I went to annex. I took the drawing of lube oil console [area 53 – sea water]
There were a problem on one of the heat exchanger at area 53 (sea water) E 53201. The gasket of one of the plate exchanger is not in a proper condition. Check.

Replaced the filter element at unit 53 (cooling water system)
Replaced solid filter at unit 33. Solid filter is a filter element for amine liquid amine is used to trap H2S gas.
Fixed pump at unit 51 (demin water). It cannot rotate.

Went to boiler no 4 at cogen (HRSG boiler). This boiler is being shut down. Later DOSH will come to do an inspection. DOSH is the Government Organization.

One of the autodrain at unit 51 is not working properly. Repair and put a grease on it.

One of the blower at SRU unit ( K 35201) is having a surge problem.
Take the temperature reading and compare it with the normal blower to specify the problem.

Operate bellow of the blower in order to observe IGV (Inlet Guided Vane)
Some of IGV’s blade is failed. Fixed it.

Checked the vibration screen at unit 67. Vibration screen is used to filter the solid sulphur.

Do the audit management with Mr. Safri. Audit is the process of checking and observing the contractor /PPMSB staffs on performing their task. They should display their permit to work while performing their task.

Fixed the problem regarding to the leakage at P 51218 B. it’s a discharge pump that pump phosphate.

The pipelines inside the plant are not straight. This is due to reducing the vibration of the pipe, releasing pipe expand and reducing medium velocity.

STEAM BOILER
Closed fired pressure vessel, strongly constructed of steel/iron.
Partly filled with water and vaporized/converted into steam with application of heat. The remaining space is called steam space.
Heat transfer occurs from the combustion of fuel to the water.
The correct air and fuel ratio are burned through burner to produce hot gases or flue gas.

FIRE TUBE STEAM BOILER
Have front and back door.
Heat is transferred from inside tube ( hot gases) to outside (water).
Burner is located outside and will supply combustion air, fuel and ignition.

WATER TUBE STEAM BOILER
Opposite condition to fire tube steam boiler.
Heat transfer from outside to inside tube.
The modern water tube package boiler has the ability to develop more boiler horse power, rapid circulation and to produce steam at high pressure in a compact design.

Operate PNLD52 Pneumatic No-Loss Drain or normally called auto drain. Find the root cause for auto drain which is failed to drain automatically.

3rd week
Mr Bakery asked me to go to engineering department to find a drawing of coupling P53201 C/B. There is a small crack on membrane (coupling component). Although coupling is still working, mr Bakery decided to purchase a new membrane for preparation.
Checked the condition of Calvert pump. Calvert pump is a kind of diaphragm pump. It is use to pump the exceed water inside the drain. Some of the pump is not in a good condition.
Met mr Izzat, he gave a way on how to settle a problem.

One of the sample cooler (F59101-sampling line) is clogged. operated the cooler. Poured the chemical (Derket) in order to unclog the cooler
Sampling line is the point/place where the pH of the Boiler Feed Water is taken. the pH of the water determine the conductivity of it.

installed the sample cooler (F59101)
operated check valve at cogen. Check valve is use to prevent back flow, to make sure that the flow is one way, and to prevent pump from rotate in a wrong way.

- Have a meeting with Mr. Bakeri Wahab. He is the executive (mechanical supervisor) at area 5.

- went to AMT5 (cogen). met Mr. Zuhar
- He gave an overview on cogen
- cogen contains 5 gas turbine generators, 1 steam turbine generator, and 2 cooling towers
- cogen use a combine cycle concept
- combine cycle concept is the concept where the exhaust gas from the combustion chamber in gtg is recover and it is use as a heating element in a boiler. the steam is then use to generate power at steam turbine generator (stg)
- visit blowdown pit (an underground pond used to collect waste water from the plant)
- At TA mall, operate side glass. Side glass is one of pump part. it is use as an indicator to observe the flow of water to the pump.
- do the unclog tray at unit 67 (sulphur plant) [T 67205]
- process - change the tray and clean the previous tray. this is because the sulphur is extracted to the bottom of the tray.
- unit 67 is the unit where the process of changing the sulphur state from liquid to solid is done.
